Description

Gluteal Intramuscular Injection Model with Bones

Made from hyper-realistic MedicSkin®, the Ventogluteal injection model with bones is a popular choice for intramuscular (IM) injection practice.

This model contains a simulated bone beneath the gluteus medius so you can simulate complications arising from the incorrect performance of the injection procedure.

Learn how to give an IM Intramuscular Injection ventrogluteal buttock muscle.

The ventrogluteal butt muscle (buttocks) has been the site most commonly selected by healthcare providers for many years because of the large size of the muscle.

You can easily feel the thighbone and the hip, (Iliac and greater trochanter of the femur) and practise the injection into the muscle.

This product is one of the best products on the market to help learners to do IM injection in the hip.

Features of the Gluteal IM Injection Model:

  • Realistic feel of the Illiac and Greater Trochanter bones

  • Injectable with liquid and mould-resistant

  • Non-staining material

Practise the Gluteal IM Injection Procedure

Where is the Ventrogluteal site?

The ventrogluteal intramuscular injection site is located at the top of the hip. To locate it, you place the palm of your hand the part of the femur (thigh bone) that protrudes. Place your index finger on the anterior iliac crest of the femur and spread your middle and index finger away from each other. The injection site is in the middle of the “V” that is created when this is done. To find this site, you’ll need to know your anatomy quite well and ensure you are placing your hands in the correct location. For this reason, only trained professionals should perform injections.

Why is the Ventrogluteal site preferred?

The ventrogluteal site is considered one of the least uncomfortable sites to administer an injection because it is one of the areas of human anatomy with the most fat. Secondly, there are no nerves or large blood vessels close to the site so there is less risk of complications.

What happens if a needle hits a bone?

A needle that is too long, or incorrectly inserted can penetrate the muscle, hitting the bone. Although the patient will not feel considerable pain from their bone being hit, the vaccine might not fully absorb into the muscle, leading to a reduced immune response.

What are the four IM injection sites?

Where should an intramuscular (IM) injection be given? Nurses learn there are four possible sites: the upper arm (deltoid); thigh (vastus lateralis); upper outer posterior buttock (gluteus maximus), also referred to as the dorsogluteal site; and the lateral hip (gluteus medius), also called the ventrogluteal site.

Liquid injection
MedicSkin® products are injectable, meaning the user can inject air into them. If specified, you can inject liquid into task trainers, a special sponge inside the product absorbs the liquid until saturation, easily drain it and rinse with distilled water to avoid mould growth.

Ultrasound
Task trainers with MedicSkin® are ultrasound scannable for sonography simulation. For example, the IV arm can be used for training in ultrasound-guided intravenous (IV) access. (Showing the user the needle or catheter).
