Newborn Heel Prick Test Simulator

The only simulator of its type on the market, this neonatal foot is designed for simulating the newborn blood spot test.

Performing infant blood screening is crucial to detect rare but serious disorders that may affect a baby's health.

Students can learn and practise the appropriate technique using this infant foot that features lifelike blood sampling.

The model realistically simulates the softness and structure of a baby's heel while the internal reservoir releases a small trickle of blood with the application of light pressure.

The newborn metabolic screening test (Also known as heel prick, PKU, or newborn blood spot test) screens for rare, but potentially serious, disorders that can affect a baby’s health.

Designed with a special internal foam and equipped with a simulated blood-filling tank, the baby's foot allows, with pressure, to release drops of blood from the heel.

This unique product is designed to enable the student to squeeze blood from the same spot repeatedly until the reservoir is empty, at which point it can be refilled, rather than for repeated needle sticks which will result in numerous bleed sites.

Newborn Blood Spot Test Trainer

Every baby is offered newborn blood spot screening, also known as the heel prick test, ideally when they're 5 days old. Therefore there is a need to provide a safe way to practise this important skill.

What is the blood spot test?

Newborn blood spot screening involves taking a blood sample to find out if your baby has 1 of 9 rare but serious health conditions.

Most babies won't have any of these conditions but, for the few who do, the benefits of screening are enormous.

Early treatment can improve their health, and prevent severe disability or even death, hence the importance of simulation training.

What does the blood spot test involve?

When your baby is 5 days old, a healthcare professional will prick their heel and collect 4 drops of blood on a special card.
